How long does stump grinding take?
It depends on the stump’s size, location and the conditions around it. Our compact grinder deals with most stumps quickly, while larger or more complex jobs take longer. We grind stumps across the Illawarra, including Wollongong and Shellharbour.
Can you grind stumps in tight spaces or near fences and houses?
Often, yes. Our compact stump grinder is built for tight spaces, so it can reach stumps in backyards with side access only, along fence lines and close to paths or buildings. We’ll check access and anything nearby during the free onsite quote.
What happens to the stump grindings?
Grinding turns the stump into woodchip. It can be raked back into the hole, spread around the garden as mulch, or taken away. While we’re there, we can also mulch any green waste in your garden.
Can I plant or lay turf where the stump was?
Yes. Once the stump is ground out, the area can be levelled and filled with soil, then turfed, paved or replanted. For a new tree, it’s best to plant a little away from the old stump, where the soil hasn’t been taken up by old roots and woodchip.
How should I prepare before stump grinding?
Please clear the area around the stump of debris, rocks and other objects, and let us know about any underground services nearby. Our team will also inspect the area on arrival before we start.
How often is stump grinding needed?
Stump grinding is usually a one-off job to clear what’s left of a tree. For ongoing upkeep, it’s worth checking your property from time to time for new or missed stumps.
Do I need a permit for stump grinding?
If the tree is already down, grinding the stump doesn’t usually need its own approval, but check with your council if the tree was protected or removed under a permit with conditions.
